In today’s episode I decided to take a look at the aspect, and elements/modes grids when casting a chart using astro.com in order to assess elemental and modal weighting in the natal chart, and also to understand how to read the aspects grid the natal chart ‘feels’.

This can be identified when looking at whether an aspect is applying, separating or is exact/partile.

Each aspect glyph is displayed in the aspects grid with a number and the letter A or S giving an indication to how soon (or recently) the aspect made it’s contact, and will give us a feel of how that person experiences the conversation between the planets in their chart.

Using Johnny Depp as an example, I demonstrate which elements and modes feature most heavily for him, and which are under-represented in the chart so we can get a feel for how he interacts with his environment, what motivates him and how he deals with conflict.

I also take a little look at how strong or weak the aspects are in contact with his Sun, and Venus and Mercury.

I hope you enjoyed todays episode and feel able to take a look at that mystical grid at the bottom of your horoscope wheel to see which planets are talking to each other, what type of relationship they have and how you interact with your environment based on your elemental and modal weightings.

The Aspects Grid

To show you how the aspects grid works I decided to look at Johnny Depp’s natal chart.

Below is Johnny Depp’s aspect grid in the format you would find it on the Astro Data Bank at astro.com.

Johnny Depp's Aspect Grid

➡️ View Johnny Depp on Astro Databank

As you can see on the left you have a box with each planetary listing and the specific degree, minute and second of arc.

You also have the aspect grid starting at the Sun, concluding at the AC & MC. These steps (which remind me of the stepped pyramid of Chichen Itza) make it possible to look at a glance and see how many planets are in aspect to each other.

On the right there is a 4×3 grid which details which planets are in each element and also each mode.

  • The rows with F, A, E, W along the left correspond with planets in Fire, Air, Earth and Water signs.
  • The columns with C, F, M along the top detail planets in Cardinal, Fixed or Mutable signs.

As explained in this enhanced podcast episode you can add the individual columns and rows to ascertain the strongest or weakest elements and modes. This can offer additional insight into the way the native interacts with their environment, how they deal with conflict and what motivates them. Each planet and angle holds a specific type of planetary weighting or strength depending on it’s personal influence. Like everything in astrology, this is open to interpretation and you can assign higher points to a planet (like I did with Saturn in Johnny’s case) if you feel the planet is worthy.

It is for this reason (alongside many others) that lead me to the understanding that Astrology is not a science, but an art or craft open to interpretation.

The colour of the aspect indicates the type of influence over the planetary ‘conversation’:

  • Red indicates major hard aspects (conjunction, opposition and square)
  • Blue indicates major soft aspects (trine, sextile)
  • Green indicates some of the more commonly observed minor aspects (semi-sextile and quincunx)
  • Black aspects are for the rest of the minor aspects detailed (Semi-square, Bi-quintile, Quintile, Sesquiquadrate)

In Johnny Depp’s case the Sun is in hard aspect to Chiron. It is in soft aspect to Jupiter and Saturn, and makes a minor aspect to the Midheaven (MC).

The numbers and letters detail how many degrees between the planets, and whether the aspect is Applying or Separating.

At a glance, I can see that the Sun is applying to Saturn by trine with 5 degrees of orb, meaning in 5 degrees, the trine will be an exact 120° aspect.

The Sun is separating from a sextile to Jupiter with 4 degrees of orb, meaning 4 degrees ago the Sun and Jupiter were in an exact sextile of 60° from each other. You could also read this as approximately 4 days prior, as the Sun tends to move about a degree a day.

It is always read that the faster moving planet is applying to or separating from the slower moving planet it is aspecting, so it helps to know which planets move faster and which move slower.

To read the type of aspect you can view the aspect table I’ve created (below).

In today’s episode, I decided to answer a question I got from one of my listeners, Emma Lee, who’s starting out on her astrological journey and pointed out that I refer to cusps a lot, but haven’t actually explained what a cusp is!

There are two types of cusp in Astrology:

  • sign cusps and
  • house cusps

The interesting thing is that sign cusps don’t technically exist, where as house cusps are really important!

Also discussed in this episodes are the power degrees of the zodiac: 0° and 29° and a brief explanation of what they mean.

I also talk about the launch of my YouTube channel and the prize you can win just by signing up!

As always I appreciate all the love, emails and support I get from y’all, you make producing this podcast such a pleasure!

The Elements: Water Signs

The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces

Dividing the horoscope wheel by three and connecting the points where the circle is intersected gives an equilateral triangle. Signs of the same element sit at the points of the triangle at 120° (four signs) apart. The Water signs are Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces.

Episode Transcript

Hello everyone, welcome back to The Stellium Astrology Podcast. I’m Stefanie James, and today I’m talking about Water signs and talking about the element Water.

iTunes Reviews

But before I get started, I just wanted to give some shout outs to people who’ve reviewed the podcast. And so just want to say thank you so much to Hayleyd23 for your wonderful five star review:

Astrology at its finest.

Hayleyd23

Girl Peril

I appreciate your five star review. Thank you so much.

Awesome, would highly recommend thumbs up five stars.

VB

Brilliant, thank you, VB. And what’s this one?

Interesting and informative podcast, five stars. I’ve been following Stellium Astrology or social media for some time and find Stefanie to be very knowledgeable. So I was delighted to hear there was going to be a podcast, I’m looking forward to being a regular listener and learning more about this fascinating subject.

tingin1

Thank you tingin1, I appreciate your lovely kind words. It’s really great that there are people who are excited about this podcast as I am.

So let’s get going. Today I want to talk about Water signs. The elements are the building blocks of astrology, we really get to the core and the essence of each of the signs through understanding the element that they are in. So on my previous episodes, I briefly went over this: literally draw a circle on a piece of paper, divide the circle into three equal parts. So draw a an equilateral triangle in the middle, and the points of the triangle will point out the elements that are of the same sign because each of the elements are 120 degrees apart. So that’s the distance between one point to another point on an equilateral triangle. So that kind of distance in astrology is called a Trine and it’s considered a harmonious and flowing aspect. And there’s a sense of natural ease and aptitude and a compatibility. And essentially, with the elements, what we have here is what really motivates or drives us. So that’s what the elements really represent. And a good book on this is “Astrology, Psychology, and the Four Elements” by Steven Arroyo.

What Drives Water Signs?

And what we’re going for today is understanding the Watery the Watery realms. So with the elements, it’s really about basic ways of perceiving process and processing stimuli in our environment. So it’s our impulses and urges needs. And for Water, this is a need to emotionally connect, and decide to decide if something feels right or if it’s agreeable.

Let’s get into Water and think about way that it flows and the way that it affects us. So immediately, I’m drawn to my many bath times where I have a little bath bomb fizzing away and I have a little book and I lock myself away in this little room. There’s condensation on the walls, and I just soak until I’m a prune (I’m sure you needed that image)!

Meditate On It

But anyway, Water is essential to life on our planet. Obviously, it’s wet and it lubricates and it dissolves it can erode. Think of the land by the sea, the cliffs that just crumble because the water keeps hitting it and hitting it and hitting it and you have little caves, which have over time been carved out through persistent water that just keeps pushing. Like the needles at the Isle of Wight I visited many, many moons ago. Water can be liquid form, but it can also be ice. So it has that kind of changing state. It can freeze and it can melt. It can saturate, it can be absorbed, it takes on the form of the receptacle it’s poured into, but it can also overflow and it can spring a leak. So it’s not always watertight.

Water in a glass can become toxic if you leave it on the side for a long time. The Water can become smelly and stale. I don’t know about you, but I use a bottle and if I leave the lid on the bottle before refilling it and it’s empty, you do get that horrible stale, damp water smell in it. So you need to give it a good scrub to get rid of that. And you know, the human body; we have toxins in our body that need to be flushed through through drinking lots of water and also making sure that we sweat. Water can be damp, so if you think about it in a house, if you’ve got a bit of a damp area you can get mold and rising damp.

We’re All In This Together

Another image that I got was being at Tooting Bec Lido (which I’ve probably only ever been to once or twice in my life) and being in the pool (this has happened to everybody who’s ever gone to a public pool) and there’s a plaster floating there that comes closer and closer. And you’re just horrified, like “oh my god!”

The problem is, when that plaster is floating towards you, you are literally aware of the fact that you’re in the water with somebody who needed that plaster, and you’re connected by that body of water. And that’s the thing about Water – it connects us. I don’t know why I chose such a gross one example – maybe because I’ve got a Scorpio/Water Moon?!

How Does Water Behave?

Water can drown us: think about tsunamis; think about Water getting out of control; think about a storm. One of my favorite films I love is the Titanic. I also love The Perfect Storm, which I know is super cheesy, I know is really rubbish but I really like it. I love the fact that it’s about the changing state and just the unpredictability of the ocean. Sometimes Water has that ability: the tsunami that we had in Japan, which triggered Fukushima – that whole thing.

Waterfalls, babbling, Brooks streams and raindrops, reservoirs, rivers, and you know, those ravines which often have a little river running through the bottom. Lakes: the phrase “Still waters run deep” applies because water generally sits quite still in a lake. And the deeper it goes, the more densely it’s packed, and you get quite a lot of silt at the bottom of a lake, which, often in lakes, you’ve got a lot of pond life and the Water is very toxic, because it’s not Water that’s constantly flowing, it just sits there.

And you’ve got streams and lots of different types of water and the ways that it works and runs. There are seven main underground rivers in London, most people when you say name a river in London, they’ll all say the Thames, but there are actually seven rivers including the Thames. I can’t remember the names of any of them! But, you know, it’s interesting to think that there’s so much Water running underneath us that we’re not even aware of, even if you’re not in London, there’s a lot of Water underneath us, all over the place.

You Spin Me Right Round, Baby

Water can slap you in the face, you can belly flop in water, we can gracefully pour liquid (think about people pouring their wine). Liquid can come in a variety of forms in the sense that it can be alcohol it can be even with paint. You can pour paint, it’s a bit thicker, but it’s got a very liquid quality about it. And Water could be a whirlpool spinning out of control, sucking people in and Water to an extent does actually dissolve boundaries. So if you think about cliffs being eroded away over time, you can dissolve the boundary in that way. Also, Water can just literally rise up and flood over, literally, like floodgates being opened. I’m sure there’s so many that I haven’t mentioned, but there’s so many different ways that Water exists and interact.

The Water signs are feminine. And like I said before it’s not about being male or female, it’s not about gender roles, or, you know, gender identity, it’s is more about the kind of receptive and subconscious internalization, that feminine energy represents, that yin that’s softer and less externally demonstrative type of energy. And for Water signs, they really need to feel and they need to immerse they need to emotionally connect.

The Water Signs

The Water signs of the zodiac are Cancer the 4th sign, Scorpio, the 8th sign and Pisces the 12th sign of the zodiac.

Cancer is very much a caring rescuer type who likes to help those in need by knowing exactly what they need when they need it. But it’s not necessarily always going to be somebody who’s caring for others, it can be very good at spotting what’s needed before people know they need it – a niche finder. So Cancer can be associated with fashions.

Scorpio, the eighth sign of the zodiac’s motto is sharing is caring. We’ll get into fixed signs soon, but Scorpio is a fixed Water sign. So think more about Water when it’s in its ice form and the freezing of anything that you have with another person because as a Scorpio is very other-person orientated. And it’s about that entanglement and commitment that you can have with another person so where you might be in the relationship with them in Libra, Scorpio the sign that follows on is making that a commitment and really kind of bonding you to something so there’s this till death do us part type of thing. And also this psychological and deep, subconscious exploration (Scorpio is quite a deep sign).

Pisces tends to want to transcend the human prison that is physicality in reality, and to connect with a source beyond the physical to really affect others without actually interacting directly with them. So I know a lot of people who are Piscean, they’re musicians, or they’re dancers, and they just want to connect with something beyond the physical and really, with musicians playing music, that can emotionally affect somebody, and you never actually met that person, but their message connects with you, and it triggers something within you.

The Human Condition

Water signs generally are very focused on human values, and they want to be a service in some way to humanity or the human condition and just care for others in some way. If they can’t care, or if they’re not that focused on tending to others, it will be tending to the way of human beings and maybe even connecting with that Divine Comedy that is life.

They’re generally quite empathic and sympathetic, and a lot of the time psychic in their ability to pick up on subtle nuances around them. So Water signs tend to be quite psychic. And they can follow their gut instinct and be quite good judge of situations, when they’re in tune with their gut reactions, gut instincts or intuition (in-tuition: inner teacher). They are more introverted and downbeat compared to the other zodiac signs. And they can be quite moody and have quite a changing nature.

Because Water in itself is very changeable, it’s very inconsistent. There is consistency to water, depending on where you’re looking at it, but there’s a kind of unpredictability, especially if you think of things like the ocean; it’s just not something you can… you can guess, you can hypothesize, and the weather report can say: “There might be a storm, and it looks like it’d be quite bad” but it could pass you by without actually going overhead.

Heavy Water Emphasis

They’re very concerned with emotional security, and they can be drawn into symbiotic relationships where there’s a sense of dependency, where they can get stuck in toxic situations because they become reliant on other people and other people can become reliant on them. I think of the Ying Yang when I think about water – this kind of flowing with these little dots in between. You can think of the dot being yourself and the other dot being someone else. And they’re kind of caught up in what you can provide for them and what they can provide for you. I know it’s a symbol of peace, but it’s a kind of symbol of cooperation, and harmony, but actually I find I find the ying yang can also describe… I just see that image when I think of symbiosis. You might disagree, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on that.

Water can be very impressionable (Scorpio not so much) but water signs, like I said, can take on the form of or whatever it is they are tending to at the time: their receptacle, their vessel. They can be quite vulnerable and quite secretive and very protective of others. I think all of the Water signs can be like this. They can be extremely protective of other people and their loved ones. I think Cancer is much more protective over family and Scorpio is in a sense protective over their loved ones well, and Pisces, I get a sense of being protective over somebody that needs defending so they can be rescuers, wanting to defend the underdog. Water can be very quick to react and be very responsive. Scorpio can be adaptable but it can take a long time for Scorpio to be ready to melt to and adapt, but with Cancer and with Pisces they’re definitely very adaptable and able to see where they’re needed.

Water signs take on the form of their vessel and though it can be a good thing, their ability to adapt can draw people in, in a way that they can manipulate others. There’s a lot of manipulation with water and so whether you have a lot of water, or you are friends with somebody or know somebody who is very watery, there is a sense of manipulation that you’ll recognize within them; they can manipulate things around them or they can be manipulative themselves.

And yes, there’s a sense of being becoming dependent sometimes – possibly clingy. And they can be irrational too. So, there might not be a lot of logic applied in certain situations because emotions run high. Generally, Water signs are more subjective than objective and they can be oversensitive, needy and overly-emotional as well.

A Lack Of Water

If you’re lacking in Water, then you can struggle to process your emotions and sometimes this can present as having a lack of empathy. But actually it not so much of a connection. So if you’ve got a planetary lack, it’s almost like it’s a little bit slower than the rest of the chart. So if you if you have planetary lack in Water, you can be slower at accessing your emotional state. And there can be a bit of an instability in the release. So it can be somebody who struggles to connect with their emotions, and then suddenly, one day they just the floodgates open and it just, it just all comes pouring out.

And what springs to mind to me, as well with this is like people that don’t understand emotional etiquette and relationships – like Chandler from friends when he’d had an argument with his girlfriend, and he just really believed that the whole relationship was over. Actually, it was just a little argument and it didn’t need to end there. But for him, he was a bit out of touch with emotional situations and a little bit inexperienced in that realm.

Subscriber Charts

So basically, loads of people sent me their chart information! And I’ve got lots of Watery listeners!

Allie Bee

Pisces rising, Moon–Uranus in Scorpio, and Mars–Saturn in Cancer.

Listener Charts Allie Bee

So I’ve got Allie Bee, who sent me her chart. Allie is in Canada and in Toronto, and she’s got Watery Pisces rising and a Scorpio Moon and Uranus up there as well with her Moon in Scorpio. It’s quite an interesting chart as well because she’s she’s also got Mars and Saturn in Cancer. So she’s got points in all of the Water signs, a nice, big watery trine there, an equal distribution of planets in water (it’s not an official grand-trine as the planets and points aren’t at the same degrees).

Someone with a Scorpio moon is a more able to reserve their emotional displays (they try to) but when they really do get triggered then it can be quite spectacular. But they’re very good at kind of playing ‘poker face’ because they don’t really want people to know about their emotions, so are very good at containing them. But when they do come out? Oh boy! (I’m speaking from experience because I have a Scorpio Moon).

Sammy

Jupiter rising in Pisces, Sun in Cancer, and Pluto in Scorpio.

And we’ve got Sammy here, another one of my subscribers. Sammy has got Pisces rising, Jupiter rising in Pisces, (Jupiter is a traditional ruler of Pisces). And what else Oh, Pluto in Scorpio and Sun in Cancer. So another triple-whammy Water. I’m not gonna go into too much depth with each of your charts in this situation. Because I’ve talked a lot about Water signs, but you’re probably going to identify with what I’ve said here. And you do have other elements to your chart, but you know, it’s just interesting to connect with this.

Ava

Venus, Sun, Mars and Mercury in Cancer, and her Moon is in Scorpio. Pisces is setting on the horizon.

A subscriber and client of mine, Ava, has got a stellium in Cancer. She has Venus, Sun, Mars, and Mercury all in Cancer. A super-psychic Scorpio Moon and Cancer stellium. And, actually to make up her third point in Water signs, her descendant is in Pisces as well! So she’s probably likely to be mingling with a lot of Piscean types and very Watery types herself. And so that’s an awful lot of Water in her chart. And, and not a lot else, actually! There’s a lack of Air there’s a lack of Earth and a lack of Fire. There’s so much Water in your chart Ava! She does have Virgo rising so that does give her a nice little grounding in Earth. But it’s mutable earth so it’s not so fixed,  not so not so stuck in one place.

Gauri & Emily

Born on the same day at different times in different countries: Gauri (left) has Air rising and Moon, and Emily (right) has Earth rising and Moon, both with watery Scorpio stelliums.

Now, two charts that came through to me on the same day, but slightly different timings were Gauri in India, and also Emily in Croydon.

You were both born on the same day! But you were born in different places at different times. So you have different ascendants and your Moons are a slightly different degrees. Being born on the same day but at different times and in different places means that Gary has Moon in (late) Aquarius and Emily has Moon in (early) Capricorn, but you have very similar things going on in the rest of your charts. So both of you have Sun, Uranus, Venus and Mercury in Scorpio. More Scorpio! Can you believe it all these Scorpio’s coming along to join in with my podcast?! Thank you so much for sharing with me, you guys! But yes, so Gauri’s got an extra air element to the chart because she has a Gemini rising and an Aquarius Moon, and Emily has Virgo rising and a Capricorn Moon so extra earthy.

These are going to be very different expressions: both born on the same day, but will definitely have very similar ways of processing their environment and going about how they want to help, what they’re motivated towards and how they interact with their environment because they have such a heavy Water weighting in their chart as well.

I’ve got more I’ve got more people – you think I’m joking?!

Carolina

Sun in Scorpio, Mars in Pisces and a Cancer Midheaven (MC).

Listener Chart – Carolina

So Carolina from Valencia, Venezuela has a Scorpio Sun and I talked about Carolina when I was talking about fire, because Carolina has a Fire stellium but she has a Watery Scorpio sun, she also has Midheaven in Cancer and Mars in Pisces.

Paula

Pluto, Mercury and Saturn in her Scorpio stellium, with her Sun out of sign in Libra.

Paula's Natal Chart

OK, Paula you’ve got – so you don’t have a Sun in Scorpio, you have Sun in Libra – but you have Pluto, Mercury and Saturn in Scorpio. So that’s another stellium in Water but with a nice airy, logical Sun, who knows they shouldn’t be holding on to things and knows that they could let things go. But actually, they do still want to mull over and process things to great depth.

Angelique

Mars rising in Scorpio, and her Sun and Mercury in Pisces.

Angelique's Chart

Angelique in Croydon has Sun in Pisces, Mercury in Pisces Mars in Scorpio. So think about what I said about some of those other aspects of the Water signs. So that’s my subscribers.

And we can look at your charts in greater detail. If you want to have your chart looked at on my podcast, please subscribe to my mailing list. And I will definitely have a little look at your chart and see if there’s anything that you can we can bring you into an episode for.

Celebrity Charts

Princess Diana

I’m just going to have a quick look over some Watery celebrities that I picked out for you. My Cancerian celebrity who I think epitomizes Cancer so well is Princess Diana; Diana, Princess of Wales, I’ll put a link in the description for all of the celebrity charts that I’m putting up today. Diana is Sun–Mercury in Cancer. So really talking and thinking about, the needs of others. She was the Queen of hearts, she really swept the whole nation away with her compassion. And she’s got Neptune in Scorpio, which is quite a slow moving planet, but it actually makes an aspect to her Sun and Mercury. So this is an ultra-compassionate and committed person who really cares about the welfare of others.

And her Sun and Mercury are actually on the other-person area of the chart, focused on the care and needs of others. But she has an Air Moon as well. So, she’s very much caring about the community. Diana is a great example of how water works, and how the Sun in Cancer works.

Keanu Reeves

Another person who’s got a Moon and Mars and Venus in Cancer is Keanu Reeves. And he also has that in harmonious aspect to Neptune in Scorpio too, because he was born around a similar time to Princess Diana (a few years away from her). So yes, he’s he’s got two stelliums! So, in fact, practically everyone I’ve chosen has two stelliums in their charts!

Gordon Ramsay

My Scorpio that I’ve chosen and I’ve probably could have chosen other Scorpios but actually I really wanted to…

I’ve chosen Gordon Ramsay, because he’s… he’s scary! And he’s great because he’s a very Marmite character, isn’t he? You either love him or hate him.

He has another stellium in his chart as well. He’s got a so he’s got sun, Venus and Neptune in Scorpio. I’m definitely going to talk about Gordon Ramsay at a later date on this podcast because I enjoy his TV shows.

You’re probably are going to tune out from this podcast and actually think I’m horrible!

But I think he’s such an amazing example of his chart. To watch him do what he does on TV. It’s melodramatic, (Water can be very melodramatic) and he does some very Scorpio things with restaurants and goes in and he transforms them. And they’re in crisis when he gets there – Scorpio is very crisis orientated sign. Go and have a look at him, it’s very interesting. You don’t see much of an emotional display from Gordon. But on his TV shows, there’s definitely a focus on emotion. And when he goes into the restaurants, families are at war with each other or falling apart; relationships are in crisis. And he comes in, gets to the bottom of the issue almost immediately, sniffs out who the real problem in the working relationship or the marriage partnership is, and forces them to look at themselves, and have very honest conversations.

Obviously, this is all very much dramatized, and made, so that it can be on TV and be very exciting and full of drama, exciting enough to hold people’s attention. But he’s incredibly successful at doing this. And it’s not just about going in and dealing with relationships – it’s about provoking strong reactions in other people. He provokes a lot of real emotional reactions in other people as well. So he’s a he’s a great Scorpio because he really lives up to that scary Scorpio kind of image.

I know there’s so many Scorpios listening to this podcast (because obviously, you’ve all seen your charts in), I’m not saying you’re all scary. But there’s this real ability to connect and go deep. And with Gordon as well, we don’t see his emotional side. He goes in as a professional, he deals with it or he keeps like a steely, calm exterior. I mean, he does get passionate, and he does shout and he does swear. But actually, he’s very composed, really. So he’s an interesting one to look at.

Kurt Cobain

And my Pisces that I chose is a mega Pisces, Kurt Cobain. And Kurt Cobain was the lead singer of Nirvana. I’m sure you’re all aware. But if you’re not, you need to check out Nirvana – you need to hear Nirvana. He’s got Saturn, Venus, Mercury and Sun in Pisces, and he has Moon and Jupiter in Cancer and Mars and Neptune in Scorpio. I mean, that is one hell of a Watery chart. And he’s one hell of a Watery person. And his whole story is very tragic. It’s really interesting.

And just to hear his music it affects people. There’s something about Water, it can disappear overnight, or it can it can sort of stay for the long term. I think that Kurt Cobain has saturated collective consciousness and he’s permeated and gone on and on and on. And with his music, it’s outlived fashions, and he really impacted a whole era. And, yes, there’s a very tragic end to his story. But if you watch any documentaries about him, he sounded a very Watery type.

And he did get involved with some of the, you know, the Neptunian/Piscean aspects of transcending reality by getting involved in drugs and drink. And, he did meet a very sad fate by the end of it all. But nonetheless, he’s a very interesting Pisces, we will look at him later on.

That’s a Wrap!

I’m definitely doing stelliums, and I’m definitely focusing in on specific charts. So if you’d like to be on the podcast, sign up to my mailing list, submit your chart details, and I will have a little look and see where you fit. And of course, subscribe rate and review me on iTunes, if you’d like a little shout out! And please share this with your friends if you think they’d like it, too.

And one final thing, I would absolutely love to know what you think about what I’ve said today about Water signs! Do you know Water signs? Do you agree? Or do you think that I was way off the mark and actually, you’ve got a better idea of how Water works in somebodies chart? I’d love to hear it! So please get in touch.

Thank you very much for tuning in.

The Elements: Air Signs

The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius

Dividing the horoscope wheel by three and connecting the points where the circle is intersected gives an equilateral triangle. Signs of the same element sit at the points of the triangle at 120° (four signs) apart. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius.

So thank you so much to Mepap-r, 8878 (whoever you are), and Lysthada; I really appreciate your lovely reviews.

Back to the topic of the elements, and today we’re talking about Air signs. I just wanted to (if you haven’t already checked in with previous episodes) remind you to go back and have a listen because there’s quite a lot of good information there.

But with the Air signs (actually with all the elements) I just wanted to remind you that to find the elements we have to do is divide the circle by three equally (an equilateral triangle) on top of a circle. And the points of the triangle will be where you find the related elements. So placing one tip of the triangle on to Gemini (the first Air sign), then the other two tips of the triangles will be on Aquarius and Libra (the other two Air signs).

And like I said before, there’s a sense of natural ease and aptitude and compatibility between the signs, they flow very easily within each other. So if you have any Air in your chart, and you know other people who have Air in their charts as well, you’re probably going to have a very comfortable ease of communication with those people and a sense of kinship with them where you’re able to relate to them quite easily.

A good book about the elements for you to delve into is Astrology, Psychology and the Four Elements by Stephen Arroyo. I’ll add that to my books pages on my website, and I’ll also include a link in the description.

What Drives Air Signs?

So really, like the other elements it’s the basic way of perceiving and processing stimuli, and our impulses and urges and our needs. It’s also what motivates us and what drives us our type of energy. So with Air there’s this urge to label things and to communicate whatever it is you’ve found, and also to establish what something is.

So Air is a little bit investigative, it likes labeling things trying to define and categorize and tell people about it. Once they know what it is they’re trying to describe they want to then share it with people.

Meditate On It

I like to try and imagine almost meditate on the element really. So if you think about Air: it can be quite hot, quite warm, it can be stifling, it can be cool, it can be icy, it can be refreshing, it can be awakening, it can have an impact on you as you walk out the front door.

If you Imagine you’ve had your central heating on indoors and you open the front door and it’s really icy outside, that wall of ice can hit you.

And in a similar way I went to Spain and traveled around in an air-conditioned car. I’d being freezing because I’d be wearing really summery clothes, then I’d open the window to let some heat in and it would be like a wall of heat literally slapping me in the face!

So Air can have a real impact on you even though you can’t see it. It circulates and you can think about Air being recycled through air-conditioning units. So you can have a sense of like recycled Air which can be quite refreshing but doesn’t necessarily have that fresh punch. And it can be quite stale at times.

Having Air flowing through a property by opening the front door and the back door can be quite powerful in the sense it can really draw through – you can get a draft that comes all the way through the house, pulling things with it. It can actually slam doors and windows and having fresh-air flow through a property can really make it feel like a completely different place. It can bring things to life.

When a baby is born, that slap on the bum instigates that need to scream or cry. It can really clear the mucus from the airways, just by giving it that initial slap. And that initial scream or cry is a relief to everybody in the delivery room because they know that that baby is able to breathe independently.

How Does Earth Behave?

So, there’s a lot Air does a lot for us. And really, if you think about the whole process of birth, and everything that happens, Air is one of the first signs that we know that everything’s okay. It’s recognizing that that there’s life inside that being. Similarly, Air can be the life of imagination or the birth of ideas. So it’s quite important in life: obviously we couldn’t live without oxygen.

Also, you can have that same element of freshness when you have someone look over a document with a “fresh pair of eyes”, they can spot errors and bring new ideas and perspectives to your ideas.

Air can blow really hard it can spiral like a twister or a hurricane. And it can be still and calm, like the eye of the storm. It can inspire and it can bring with it new ideas, new events, but also it can be destructive and it can tear things down. If you’ve ever seen on the news where a twister has gone through the tornado belt in America: they literally tear properties down in a split second. You’ve got lots properties and suddenly it’s just piles of rubble.

Mind: Blown

With Air you can be blown away, and you can be refreshed with Air. With Gemini you can have your “mind blown” with new ideas. With Libra, you can be “swept off your feet” with somebody else. And with Libra and relationships, there’s this idea of what you can be with another person or what another person can teach you or what you can learn from yourself in this exchange with other people.

Air is a great exchange. And just to really touch on the basics here, Air is a masculine sign. That doesn’t mean it’s male / a man / all Air signs are men. It’s just that there’s that masculine quality about Air, which has a sort of conscious and considered attack. It’s extroverted and externalized. There’s a consciousness about Air.

The Air and the fire signs as quite demonstrative and quite ‘out there’. And there’s also an element of confidence because when you’re asserting yourself or being extroverted, there is an element of putting yourself out there. and not necessarily having faith in yourself, but having confidence in where you’re coming from, I suppose.

The Great Debate

So, the essence of Air is to really go out there, share ideas and create debate. The Air signs are Gemini, Libra and Aquarius, if I hadn’t already touched on that, and these signs really are focused on interaction, the exchange of ideas.

To create sound, speech and music it’s entirely dependent on Air but you do need like a sense of vibration or frequency within that.

Air likes to inform everybody, it likes to spread the message it likes to communicate, it generally has good social skills because Air signs are able to have their own perspective, but see other perspectives, as well. And they’re also able generally to keep things in proportion (whereas Fire signs might blow things way out of proportion).

Air is very interaction based so includes fields like counselling, which are based around talking and conversation and helping interactions.

The Spice of Life

There’s a need for variety with Air: keeping it fresh, changing things up and travel is associated the Air signs. That doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to travel everywhere all the time: it can be a journey of the mind, storytelling and that sense of adventure in an imaginative sense – or in a literal sense going on a journey of discovery.

There’s a lot of focus on dialogue, a real thirst for knowledge, and they can be rational and objective. The Air signs don’t have to agree with another person, but can understand where they’re coming from. So there is a type of empathy because you don’t have to have been through something to put yourself in that place (mentally) and think about when you have experienced something like that, to empathize with another person.

But it doesn’t necessarily have to be empathy – it can just be considering an alternative perspective or ideas opposite to their own. They can be very fair and rational and logical. There’s a sense of law about Air signs.

Heavy Air Emphasis

If there’s a lot of Air in the chart being it can make someone very ‘heady’, overly theoretical, scattered and anxious – A little too trapped in the head and struggling with grounding things.

Someone I used to work with would say call herself a “blue-sky thinker”. She’s an Aquarius and she’s definitely a blue-sky thinker. She liked working with me because I was able to be her anchor (I’m an Earth sign: my Sun is in Capricorn).

So, she’s a blue-sky thinker, and she liked Earthy people, because they were helping her anchor her ideas and her visions for how she wanted things done.

It was a really nice image for me to think about: that blue sky thinking which Aquarius can be very good at – coming up with ideas, conceptualizing and thinking about what contingencies we might need if something comes up when there’s an issue, but then the practical Earth signs are able to say “Now let’s go and apply this and actually create procedures and processes”. So that’s quite a nice way that Air and Earth can work together.

Air signs can be overly-logical, overly-rational. And they can apply logic over empathy.

Theory Over Practice

Sometimes, they can think about how the other person might feel but could be out of touch with being able to relate to how the other person feels. They understand what they’re going through, but they don’t empathize with it. They might say “Well, yes, I know you’re upset. I get that this is upsetting thing, but we do need to be rational”.

Sometimes people need that space to process. So it can be a little bit robotic, a little bit too efficient in its processing of the the theory behind emotional situations or practical situations without actually getting into the practice or the feeling of things. It’s a case of theory over practice.

If you’ve ever heard somebody say, “I’ve passed my driving test, but you really start to learn when you actually start driving”.

You can tick all the boxes with the exams, you can have all of the qualifications on paper. But when it comes to actually applying yourself to real life situations, you can have all the Air but you don’t necessarily have the Earth that actually anchors it down.

So it’s an interesting one because it is very ideas orientated. It’s very conceptual, and quite can be abstract at times. What makes logical sense doesn’t always make emotional sense or practical sense. Things like ‘think-tanks’ trying to make sense of things in meetings, getting fired up with that conversation and then going away where you then have to apply it.

A Lack of Air

Lacking Air as you know [from previous episodes], can lead to overcompensating. They might want to appear to be extremely intelligent. They may lack the confidence in their intellectual ability as well.

Being a bigger picture kind of person (with Air and thinking ahead) if you’re lacking, it may be difficult to grasp that.

And it may be difficult cooperating and compromising sometimes with other people. If you’re lacking it, you may be a little bit unreasonable. Or maybe people have told you that but you can’t quite see it.

And as previously mentioned, there can be anxiety with Air signs. With people that lack Air, there can be anxiety meeting people. As with a lack of Fire there’s a kind of pessimism, not always able to see the positive. It can be a little bit doom and gloom.

There can be a real lack of ability to apply oneself intellectually or act – academically, everybody’s different – but there’s not always an ability to apply oneself in the realm of ideas and processing of information. It can be a struggle sometimes.

So that’s just a little look at some of the ideas around Air signs. And I’ve picked out a couple of charts to look at.

Subscriber Charts

Karis

Karis has 3 planets in Air: Sun, Venus and Mercury (plus asteroid Chiron) scraping the top of her chart on the Midheaven

Karis from Carshalton has 3 planets in Air, but also her Midheaven (her career point) and she also has Chiron up there, as well.

So she has lots lots of planets in Air: the Sun, Venus and Mercury up there at a really high point in the chart. And Karis is a Gemini, and she’s got all of that stuff going on in Gemini.

Karis is somebody who tends to learn or teach people for a living. She’s a teacher, it’s all sitting up in her 9th house [of teaching and learning]. She teaches people how to speak different languages. Karis is fluent in Portuguese, as well as English. She can speak Spanish as well, but Portuguese is the thing that she’s much more fluent with.

And I believe she can speak some other languages as well. But the other thing that’s interesting about Karis is that she’s taught English as a second language when she’s lived abroad. And Karis is somebody who has always gone traveling, and she’s traveled all over the world.

When she decided she wanted to be a sound therapist, she didn’t think twice about booking a course with a sound therapy teacher in and travelling to Cornwall which is miles (and hours) away from where she lives in London [Gemini is associated with travel].

She works with frequencies: the voice and the different pitches, ranges and frequencies which can unlock blockages.

By the way: I’m not an expert in sound therapy, but my understanding from having a treatment myself with Karis, is that there is an element of using frequencies in order to create flow within the body. She’s a believer in using the voice and using frequency as a way of freeing up energy blockages.

She’s also a musician and a singer. I know she can play instruments, but her voice is her instrument and she is literally a songbird! And yes, she does sound therapy, she’s a yoga teacher and she teaches English as a second language.

I could get into the whole Gemini aspect of her life but I won’t right now because I think Karis has a great mutable chart and we’ll be talking about her again when we talk about the mutable signs. But yes, Karis is a very Airy person who loves conversation, sharing ideas, and a very knowledgeable person.

Gauri

Gauri has her Ascendant, Moon and Pluto in Air signs

Somebody else who we’ve got some Air in their chart is one of my subscribers, Gauri.

Gauri signed up to the mailing list and sent me her chart details.

Gauri has Gemini rising and has her Moon and Midheaven in Aquarius, so that’s two placements in Air signs, and she also has Pluto in Libra (like a whole generation of people). Like I said (in previous episodes), Pluto moves really, really, really slowly. And Pluto is the only planet in Libra in Gauri’s chart, so we wouldn’t look too much at that because it’s a generational thing. We would look if there was going to be a (planetary) transit there. But as far as natal interpretation goes, or looking at the elements, at least, it’s not the most heavily weighted chart towards Air.

There’s definitely more water in this chart. But I thought it was interesting to look at the fact that we do have Air rising and we also have an Aquarius moon, and again, like Aquarius is quite conceptual, very community driven and sharing ideas around a subject that they’ve decided that they want to focus on.

And they’re very much interested in that exchange with like minded people, whereas Gemini might not care too much if you’re like minded. Gemini’s more interested in hearing different perspectives and understanding things from a completely different point of view. That’s why Gemini is represented by the twins, because the twins are not carbon copies of each other in an intellectual sense – they actually have their own minds and freedom of thought.

So that’s a nice complement to the rising sign and the Moon, and that sharing of ideas. And actually, your moon is trine your Ascendant (rising sign), meaning that actually, your Moon and Ascendant are almost exactly 120° (one side of the triangle) apart.

So it’s a really nice flow and it probably gives you a very nice ease of communication with the people that you meet. People probably find you very interesting and very curious naturally, and probably find you to be a very natural communicator. But with all that water going on in Scorpio in your chart, you’re probably likely to be perceived as very deep. And getting into very deep, intense conversations and the subjects that other people might struggle to approach, you don’t tend to struggle with, too much.

And actually, you probably make it easier and more accessible for people to be able to talk about more difficult things, because you open up that dialogue.

Celebrity Charts

Bob Dylan

Now, I just really want to get on to talking about just a couple of celebrity charts. So the Gemini chart I chose is Bob Dylan.

Bob has got Sun, Venus and Mercury all in Gemini. And Bob Dylan is known for playing guitar and his finger picking style. So it’s not just like strumming the strings and chords. It’s playing really intricate songs and being able to operate both hands independently while singing at the same time. And what’s great about Bob Dylan is not only that he’s great at guitar, but the songs that he comes up with are so very… he’s more of a social commentator, an abstract social commentator, whose lyrics whether you like them or not, are worth listening to.

I will definitely be talking about his chart again at some point because Bob Dylan has an amazing chart. He’s got a lot of mutability and a lot of fixity in his chart, and he’s quite Airy.

So it’s definitely very, a very interesting chart to look at: Bob is a musician, he’s known for being a poet. He packed his guitar up and I can’t even remember how much he said he had – I think he said at the time he had about $10 bucks in his pocket, and he traveled… where did he go? Did he go to New Orleans? I can’t remember where exactly.

But he went to put himself out there and just start performing. And Bob Dylan became respected and well known for being a musician and songwriter, a wordsmith. Because Bob Dylan is a wordsmith, and a very talented musician, whether or not you like the music, you have to give him credit for the fact he’s talented at writing lyrics and songs.

He was described as the voice of a generation. He basically was the mouthpiece of his generation, and he spoke about some incredibly challenging and difficult times that humanity went through. So he’s a really interesting chart to look at as far as Air is concerned.

➡️ View_Bob Dylan on Astro-Databank

Kate Winslet

Another person I chose has got a lot of Air is Kate Winslet. She’s got Sun, Moon, Mercury, and Pluto, all bundled together in Libra. There are some questions over her birth time (the time we have for her isn’t necessarily accurate). The initial time we’ve got for her is considered DD: that’s Dirty Data (the Rodden Rating).

But we are in thinking that possibly she has a Libra Ascendant as well. I think that the idea of where her Ascendant came from was Jonathan Cainer’s website (I’m reading this on Astro Databank), and it said on Jonathan Cainer’s website it gives a time of 7:15am and it’s also been given on IMDB, but it’s unverified.

So she’s got sun rising in her chart. And she’s another great one that we’ll probably talk about again. But having Libra rising and you know, having lots of planets in Libra lends towards being somebody who’s quite likable and quite charming.

I believe Bill Clinton also has a lot of stuff going on in Libra. I know he’s actually featured in Frank’s get to the heart of your chart book, which I’ve got right next to me.

There is a charm about these Librans and an attractiveness that you can’t deny. But they’re also considered to be quite fair. And they are very focused on other people and very interested in the exchange with others – all the Air signs are – but Libra is much more relationship-focused and learns a lot about itself through relationships. Kate has done a lot of different films, but she’s very well known for being in Titanic, and that was very much based around a relationship.

Also, Venus is about beauty, and Libra (as it’s a Venus ruled sign) can be very focused on beauty as well. Kate has been known to say: I don’t want my photographs, airbrushed, this is who I am. This is what I look like…accept me for that; accept me for the way that I look. So it’s interesting that she’s very much Sun rising in Libra, (if that is her correct birth time).

But she defnitely has Sun, Moon and Mercury in Libra, and she was talking about beauty ideals and beauty. And she has honest Pluto there too – that’s a stellium in Libra.

➡️ Read What is a Stellium?

So, Bob has a stellium in Gemini, Kate has a stellium in Libra, and I’ve picked someone with a stellium in Aquarius who immediately sprang to mind for me:

Eddie Izzard

➡️ View Eddie Izzard on Astro-Databank

The reason I chose Eddie Izzard is because he embodies that Aquarian uniqueness, and he’s such an Airy person. He’s got: Sun and Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, Saturn and Mars, all in Aquarius, so many planets in Aquarius, and he also has Gemini on the Midheaven.

We don’t necessarily look at the Midheaven as a point where we’re going to look at elemental weighting, but actually, as far as Eddie is concerned, we have got a lot heavy weighting in Air and – particularly in Aquarius.

Eddie is a heterosexual male transvestite, stand-up comedian, actor and entertainer. Now, comedy very much is Airy, because it’s being very quick, and there’s a storytelling element to it, but there’s also the ability to just come up with one-liners.

But what’s really interesting and unique about Eddie Izzard and I would encourage you to go and look at to find a video of his online and just watch him do his stand up routine. I can’t remember which one in particular I’m thinking of. I think it was in San Francisco and I remember the name of the DVD that I watched – it’s Dressed to Kill.

He doesn’t subscribe to a particular social convention. So he will quite happily go on stage wearing makeup and high heels and a dress, because that’s what he feels like doing.

It’s very detached. There can be a detachment from the body (and emotions) with the Air signs. And so there’s this detachment from, you know, social convention and gender ideals actually even gender roles and assignments.

Something else that’s great about him is that he can slip between languages in his stand up routine. He’s fluent in French. And he literally switches over from speaking English into French, and is still able to make the audience laugh even though some of them don’t understand what he’s talking about. It’s that gift with language and that ability to communicate it in such a way that people just connect with it.

So Eddie Izzard is a great one and actually he’s got into politics over recent years and has a lot of people very interested in following him. He was going stand for election as the Mayor of London for the Labour Party in the UK.

And actually, Labour has more liberal ideals now than perhaps it used to. It’s not quite as far left as the Liberal Democrats, but actually, Air signs can be seen to lean towards equality and having an idea of how things should be done, and so they want to promote that idea. So that was a really interesting chart to look at as well.

That’s a Wrap!

So if you’re enjoying this podcast, please subscribe rate and review it on iTunes and share it with somebody who might like it – especially if they are an Air sign.

BT DUBS…

And actually, perhaps I didn’t share with you all, but I have a stellium in Air as well (which is why I can waffle on for ages!) and I have a Gemini Ascendant. So I’ve got a lot of Air in my chart.

Perhaps a little too much Air!

Thank you very much for tuning in. I’ll speak to you next time. Bye now!

The Elements: Earth

The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn

Dividing the horoscope wheel by three and connecting the points where the circle is intersected gives an equilateral triangle. Signs of the same element sit at the points of the triangle are 120° (four signs) apart. The Earth signs are Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

Kim at Psychic Passage

Thank you so much Psychic Passage, your support means the world to me. <3

So let’s get on. You might hear me clicking about a bit, but I’m just getting bits and bobs prepared for you. So with all of the elements (I will describe this with all of the elements, just in case this is the first show that you’re tuning into) the way to work out how far apart they are, draw a circle down on a piece of paper and you draw an equilateral triangle, which is there is 120° from point to point (three ways) or you just divide the circle into three perfectly.

And that gives you the exact placements where you would find each element. So if you were going fire elements, you’d have the first one lined up on Aries and the other two points would line up perfectly with Leo and Sagittarius, and now, we’re doing the earth signs, so you’d put the first point on Taurus, and the next one that would be highlighted would be Virgo, and the next one will be Capricorn.

So that’s how far apart they are, and this is called a trine in astrology which is a harmonious and flowing aspect, and it has a sense of natural ease and natural aptitude and is quite compatible with other signs that it’s trine to. Essentially the elements are what motivate and drive us. It’s how we interact or perceive and process stimuli around us, and describes our impulses and our urges and needs.

A good book on this subject is Astrology, Psychology and the Four Elements by Stephen Arroyo. I’ll put a little link for that in the description.

What Drives Earth Signs?

For earth signs, they really need to create something tangible and bring their visions into reality. So you’re coming from fire of Aries or any of the fire signs that precede the earth signs.

For Virgo the preceding fire sign is Leo and for Capricorn the preceding fire sign Sagittarius. It’s taking that inspirational fire and being able to create something out of it.

So instead of just being full of ideas and not really having anywhere to put it earth is actually able to make something physical, bring it into reality, and create a tangible product. If there’s something that’s already in existence it’s the earth’s desire to touch it and to feel it it’s a very tactile element. It’s very earthy, it needs contact.

Meditate On It

I always like to try and I think a little bit about getting into the vibe of the elements. So trying to, maybe meditate a little bit on it. A good way to do it is to take your shoes and socks off and go and stand on some grass or sit on some grass and close your eyes and put your hands down and just feel it underneath your palms and just let the grass go between your fingers or actually put pickups and dirt, or maybe tend to some plants in your house if you don’t have a garden.

I’ve got lots of plants on my window sills, and just really think about the fact that the soil is where we plant our seeds. It’s the things that we put our little… we make a little hole in the soil and we put our seed inside, pat it down and we water it and we nourish it so it grows.

Think about the foliage that can actually flourish from the earth. And then think about like the rolling hills of England: like driving through the Cotswolds, or perhaps going to the West country. Some beautiful, rolling Hills that just look almost like water rippling, but actually it’s just the land. It’s a beautiful, poetic landscape.

And then you’ve got the more dramatic mountain ranges like the Alps or the Himalayas or the Andes mountains. Then you’ve got vast, vast deserts in some of the hotter climates much closer to the equator.

And then think about the sand by the ocean, the sand at the sea – that’s still earthy – put your hands in the sand and just feeling that lovely connection with the earth, but being faced with the ocean in front of you.

How Does Earth Behave?

Earth supports all life on earth, literally. And it literally supports us when we stand on the ground. When we step outside and put our feet down, we are literally supported by the earth. And if you think about it, if you bring it down to the core, literally the core of the earth that’s spinning around and creating that gravitational pull, which is attracting us towards it. That’s what makes it possible is really, really core to the essence of earth, that attractive quality.

Just connect with that feeling when you’re out in nature. I know some people aren’t particularly fussed about going out in nature. There are some, but myself personally, I get such a good feeling from just being out in the countryside. I love the countryside and I just like being close to natural life really, and just sort of reconnecting with the earth and just camping or going on a picnic, just that feeling of comfort and security I get from being in nature. It’s a wonderful feeling.

There’s a real sense of reconnection and actually something that I think is important for anybody with strong earth in their chart — and anybody who doesn’t have strong earth in their chart actually — is grounding; particularly when you’re doing things like astrology and tarot. I didn’t realise this until I studied Reiki, but actually I didn’t know how exposed I was — energetically exposed — I was to other people.

Ground, Protect, Connect

When I started studying Reiki, one of the things that they force you to study – but you must do this – is learning how to ground. There’ll be plenty of grounding meditations on YouTube, but it’s about really connecting with the floor and feeling your feet on the ground, and then just really anchoring yourself to the ground. You can almost imagine yourself growing roots from the bottom of your feet and just connecting with the ground.

And then you can reach up as high as you, like. You can go up into the sky, up into space in your imagination and just reach out as far as you can, but you have to be connected on the ground it’s so important. And also things like cleansing rituals and rituals that reinforce your personal shield or your boundaries.

Polishing your little bubble, just to make sure that you’ve got it clean, there’s no gaps and that all of the energy that you have is yours and that you’re not taking on anybody else’s and you’re not leaking any energy anywhere else. It’s so important!

I didn’t realize this until I did Reiki. And then when I studied Reiki and I was doing treatments and I’d forgotten to ground and protect, I would actually be really, really quite unwell for a couple of days. And then I noticed a pattern where I’d, I think I’d forgotten to ground.

So grounding is really, really key. And I found that it really helps in astrology when you’re going to see clients definitely ground yourself. And it also really helps in any situation where you’re feeling stressed or you’re getting into your head, or you’re getting a bit emotional. Sometimes it’s just about coming back into the body. And this is what earth is all about. It’s about reconnecting with the body and coming back into reality.

The Law Of Attraction

So earth energy is very feminine, very yin, passive and subconscious and internal. It’s not very drive/extroverted/active – it’s very introverted and it brings everything in. And if you think about that spinning core of the earth, it’s almost like the earth signs have this little spinning core within them, and they do have this ability to attract – particularly Taurus.

When I say feminine or masculine, I’m not necessarily coining this and saying that it’s about being male or female. It’s about that essence of attracting or pursuing, introverted or extroverted. For earth signs, they really need to physically feel and connect and create and produce and to leave the world in a better condition than they found it.

🐱 I have a little cat in here with me. What are you doing? Come here. Want to be stroked? Come on Lana.

Lana’s trying to pretend that she never gets any attention, but she does.

Salt of the Earth

Earth signs like to indulge their sensual side and to enjoy the pleasures that life affords them. They tend to release (not always) their emotions through physical activity. They’re dependable and down to earth. If you hear someone saying, “Oh, he’s very down to earth” or “a very sort of the earth type of person”, that’s quite an earthy reference.

If there’s a strong earth element in the chart, they don’t tend to shy away from responsibility. And actually if you break the word responsible up, it’s like response-able, they’re quite responsive when needed and they’re quite able to step up to that role.

Money Doesn’t Grow On Trees

They’re quite real-world people, and I know (being a Capricorn myself) having an earthy sun (and not much else in earth, actually) growing up, my dad who is my masculine archetype that I used to look up to, would say to me, “Come on now, that’s not how it works in the real world – money doesn’t grow on trees”.

You do hear people saying these things and as a Capricorn, that was part of my growing-up mantra. “That’s not how it works in the real world…that’s just not how the world works”. It’s very, “This is practical advice I’m giving you! You need to listen to my practical advice!” So it’s quite interesting. Sometimes when you listen to earth signs, you can almost hear the earth when they’re talking, because it’s all very practical and very realistic stuff.

Builders of the Zodiac

Earth signs are very good at building solid foundations and then building upwards. Security is often what drives earth signs, so it can be making sure that they have always got the roof over their heads so that they work really hard in order to make sure that they’ve got the things that they want, or it could be Taureans (or those with a strong Venus maybe like an earthy Venus) may want to have objects, which reflect the hard work that they’ve done – that is quite a Taurean thing.

That moves on to the next point: enjoying the fruits of their labor. So enjoying having money which can afford them to indulge their physical senses or to just adorn…

🐱 Pardon Archer? I don’t know if you just heard that? He was making noises, he’s letting me know he’s here. Hello Archer, are you OK?

The cats are really misbehaving today actually, which is fine. I like it when they play. But they’re just attention seeking at the moment and I will go and tend to them in just a moment.

Earth signs like to enjoy the fruits of their labor and almost see labouring as a sense of self love. Not always… I mean, I know plenty of earth signs that find work really hard, but when they’re doing the right work, when they find the thing that they feel most productive and get real reward from doing, then they don’t see it as a chore or they don’t see it as grinding. It’s much more of a sense of enjoyment and fulfilment.

Earth signs can really benefit from, and also can gravitate quite a lot towards routines. They can be quite tenacious, they’re very practical and very disciplined. Where air signs can be ‘blue sky thinkers’, earth signs can really ground ideas and really anchor them and bring them into fruition.

Heavy Earth Emphasis

Overdoing it, as far as earth is concerned, you can get people that are really overly-practical. They err towards Pessimism, but they call it “being realistic”, they don’t really allow themselves to dream, or have the propensity to dream because they are very trapped in reality and they don’t really see that often our reality is created by our dreams and what we really want and our desires.

They can be overly materialistic and put too much emphasis on having stuff that isn’t really necessary, and they can be overly cautious and quite serious. Sometimes it can be a bit of a buzzkill. So that’s a heavy, heavy, heavy earth – being extremely practical.

A Lack of Earth

If you’re lacking with earth, sometimes you can be a little bit out of touch with the body – a lack of inhibition when it comes to knowing how to dress properly or appropriately for certain occasions. Those with a lack can be a little bit out of touch with their body.

And there can be a sense of hypochondria – those who are quite anxious about little twinges in the body. I don’t have a lot of earth in my chart – I have a lot of air and I am an earth sign (Capricorn). I can be a bit of a hypochondriac – I’ll be sitting there and I’ll suddenly get a little twinge somewhere close to where the appendix is and I’ll be like, “Oh my God! I’ve got appendicitis!” and I’ll be sitting there, freaking out about it, and then it will literally just pass and I’ll be fine and I’ll just say, “Oh, okay, It wasn’t appendicitis – It was nothing!

But you can get really sucked into overreacting because just my sun in Capricorn, but also a lot of air allows me to go crazy in my thoughts.

Then there’s those that really can’t don’t know how to master that material realm – they lack that ability. So they struggle with debts and organising their money. They think they know what they’re doing with it and suddenly realise “my money’s gone I’m in debt!” – That horrible dread feeling that you get when you just haven’t got a grasp of money.

Mastering the Material Realm

So there can be a difficulty with mastering the material realm and also with some lacking in earth. There can be problems with well addictive personalities depending on other chart factors. But really there is a disconnect from the body.

So like I said before with all the signs it can help if you are feeling disconnected, if you are quite heady person, if you are quite a dreamy person or if you’re just getting caught up in a stressful situation – just ground and protect yourself.

And actually there’s so many ways you can ground and protect: you can literally stamp on the floor. You can jump around, you can do meditations, which help you get into the body, or you can do things like yoga or running, or going for a walk even. So there’s lots of ways to bring yourself back into the body.

Subscriber Charts

Paula

Paula has a balance of planets in each of the elements, with three planets including her moon in earth signs

Subscriber Paula's Natal Chart

So let’s have a little look… I thought I’d have a look at Paula’s chart. Paula has moon in Virgo and Mars and Jupiter in Capricorn.

So she’s got three planets in earth and she also has her midheaven (MC) in earth as well. She’s got an awful lot of Scorpio (she’s got three planets in Scorpio), a few things in fire and some air. So she’s got quite a nice little balance of the elements.

And she’s got a fiery, Leo ascendant. So I’d Imagine that there’s quite a lot of – I’d say drama – but there’s definitely a confidence that comes with Leo that doesn’t shy away from the spotlight.

But that Virgo moon isn’t as demonstrative and extroverted as fire. So it’s probably quite humble. And especially with the Capricorn, Jupiter and Mars.

Mars in Capricorn is a very high performing Mars placement. So Paula has three planets in Capricorn, and an earthy Midheaven (MC) and earth signs are naturally pragmatic, practical.

Emily

With Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and her Ascendant in earth signs, Emily viwes the world through a practical lens

Subscriber Emily's natal chart

Emily has got four planets in Scorpio — she’s got a lot of water — but actually she’s got three planets in earth and she also has Virgo rising (ascendant).

She’s got Saturn rising, which is super-responsible. Saturn rising people have the weight of the world on their shoulders and life can seem quite difficult.

She has a Capricorn moon – so this is somebody who really, when things get tough, they can really throw themselves into work, whereas some people, when things get tough, they just need a break from it. Capricorn moon can really just keep on going, incredibly resilient. Jupiter (in Capricorn) as well.

I know she works for the family business, so that’s the Capricorn moon right there — It’s basically working with the family, and that Saturn rising — it was probably an expectation for her to do that from a very young age. They probably talked about her working for the family business. So there’s that respect for hard work. And with Capricorn moon and with all that Scorpio stuff, it’s very guarded.

The Scorpio stuff likes to guard itself – it’s very, icy and protects itself. I’m not saying she’s an ice maiden! But I’m saying that there’s an element of not being as open emotionally as perhaps Cancer or Pisces are (the other water signs).

But with that Capricorn moon, it definitely needs to work on its boundaries in order to basically maintain its energy levels and to feel secure.

And yes, with an emphasis of planets in the 12th house in Virgo there is an ability to give – there’s an expectation, almost – from a very young age. She’s had to give a lot of herself to other people’s causes a lot of her working behind the scenes in order to make whatever it is she’s doing work.

So it’s very service-orientated, Virgo rising, very service-orientated, with that Saturn and Jupiter there, tucked into the 12th house. It’s quite it can be quite challenging and quite hardworking and quite exhausting for anybody who does have that placement. So again, grounding is important.

Sammy

Sammy lacks air in her chart, but has moon, Venus, Mars and Neptune in earth signs

Subscriber Sammy's natal chart

Somebody else I’ve got here, one of my subscribers – Sammy from Kent – has got moon and Venus in Virgo, which is setting in the chart (that’s the descendant) – the area of other people. And she’s also got Mars and Neptune in Capricorn, as well.

So that’s four planets in earth and that’s a fair amount of earth there that’s quite heavily weighted towards earth.

And with the earthy planets being up in the profession, work and ambitions zone, Mars up there might be seen as quite professionally competitive, but you might not like to reveal that to people.

That Capricorn vibe is that they’re ambitious. They can be competitive (Mars in Capricorn), but Capricorn’s not about really showy displays of competition. It’s very good at applying itself and working really hard and being very structured – particularly when it’s paired with a Virgo moon and Venus in Virgo as well.

There’s someone that really values supporting other people and having the moon in the 6th house – which is also another house of work – it’s very routine focused and somebody who definitely is probably very supportive and valued at work and actually feels at home being able to work in areas that she is actually helping other people in some way and working towards other people’s goals.

But there is an aspiration with that Mars in the 10th house, and maybe that Neptune in Capricorn up there dreaming of doing things her own way, or leading in some way. And you probably do, but you don’t necessarily have to be ugly about it and ruffle other people’s feathers. So that’s Sammy.

Allie Bee

Allie has a Taurus stellium, anchoring some of the more watery elements of her chart

➡️ Read What is a Stellium?

Listener Charts Allie Bee

Allie Bee thank you – Taurus Stellium alert! Sun, Venus and Jupiter in Taurus. We also have—I’m not talking about the nodes at the moment, but—the nodes are involved.

But yes, Allie has three planets in Taurus. There’s a lot of water in Allie’s chart, there’s loads – and there’s not a lot of fire.

The water signs we’ll park for now, but with the earth element there is definitely (with Taurus) a sense of anchoring because it’s on the lower part of the chart. So she’s got her moon and Uranus up there in the top area and also Neptune.

So, not a lot of personal planets above the horizon, apart from the moon. And actually, the moon is the most visible planet. So actually emotionally, maybe she’s known as a caregiver, perhaps she’s known for being a mum maybe, or the family is very much a part of what people know about her, but actually on the bottom of the chart, there’s this lovely, heavy Taurus anchor, that’s keeping all that emotional stuff in check – or attempting to anyway!

And yes, having Jupiter and Venus and Taurus, these are two planets that are considered to be ‘benefic’, which is like beneficial or positive planets to have. And in Taurus they can be a little bit overindulgent actually, so it can be a bit of a challenge to balance how much you indulge in your physical senses.

It’s probably something that you do privately. You’re probably somebody who’s very, quite private that keeps your personal life behind closed doors and actually just really likes to come home and have a little, I dunno, alone time and just chill out and enjoy some good food and maybe have a nice bath – that way of unwinding.

There’s a lot of earth in Allie’s chart. So she may actually resonate with some of the things that I’ve said, and definitely about being a rock to other people, and supporting friends.

Anybody who I’m looking at their charts during this please do, let me know if I’ve said anything that actually resonates with you or if you think, “no, that’s not right. Actually I think that actually I’m more like this…” It would be interesting for me to hear.

Karis

Karis has Ascendant, moon, Jupiter and Neptune in earth signs, anchoring her sky-scraping Gemini Stellium

➡️ Read What is a Stellium?

Somebody else I’ve got is Karis from Carshalton. And Karis is definitely going to be discussed because she’s very mutable. But we’ll talk about that when we discuss the modes.

But actually Karis has got a Virgo ascendant and a Capricorn moon, and she also has Neptune and Jupiter and Capricorn as well. So she’s got quite lot of earth in her chart, and Karis definitely expresses that earth and expresses her emotions through yoga. She’s a yoga teacher and she does yoga every single day. And she absolutely has to. If she leaves it alone – if she doesn’t do it, she really feels it.

She’s very good at her money management. I’ve always known her to be very good at saving money because she likes to travel. So she’s understood how to make money work for her as far as travel is concerned and she’s always ensured she has the security of work. She’s a hard working individual.

She’s always built herself up with training and travelling. And so she’s got quite an interesting international CV full of lots of amazing skills, which she’s built up to really support this lovely free-flowing freedom lifestyle that a Gemini wants, but also has the practicality and the security that Capricorn moon needs as well. So it’s a very nice chart which enables her to work with the material/reality world.

She’s quite a practical, common sense ‘salt of the earth person’ but also has that lovely need for freedom that the Gemini Stellium at the top of her chart, requires. So and she’s got quite a nice balance of planets as well. She doesn’t really lack too… I think she likes fire actually. There’s a little bit of fire that she lacks and she has got a heavy, heavy air emphasis.

So something does have to lack when you’ve got a lot of emphasis in one area, then there’s another area is going to lack at some point. So that’s some listener charts.

Celebrity Charts

Gordon Ramsay

➡️ View Gordon Ramsay on Astro Data Bank

So here’s Gordon Ramsey. Love him or hate him, he’s a really interesting person.

He’s got two stelliums: a Scorpio sun, but also he has moon in Virgo with Mars, Pluto and Uranus in the mix.

That’s one hell of a temperamental stellium. Now I don’t see him as a temperamental person, though you might argue because he’s quite passionate and he can be scary – a ‘force to be reckoned with’ – that Mars–Pluto energy, which is quite dominating and it can be quite exciting as well.

And it cuts to the core of people, but with that common sense and sort of straight ‘down the line’ Virgo quality. And what I think is great about Gordon’s chart is his ability to go into restaurants and he does the Scorpio transformation side of things, but he also does this detail orientated, fastidiously clean, hygienic, demanding that no stone is unturned (which could put down to Scorpio) but a Scorpio–Virgo combination is definitely going to be very focused on cleanliness, and definitely ensuring that everything is as it should be.

So he gets called into restaurants to focus on “where’s it going wrong?” and he digs into the details and finds that basically, “this needs to change… That needs to change… The hygiene’s rubbish… Shut the place down!”

So yeah, he’s a great chart to look at. And his birth data rating as well is actually perfect. His birth time is right – AA Rodden Rating.

Bettie Page

➡️ View Bettie Page on Astro-Databank

So let’s have another look at somebody I picked out. Okay.

So I picked out Bettie Page, a glamour model. It says here (on Astro Data Bank) that her career started in the summer of 1950 and she’s iconic. That hairstyle that she had with the short fringe that’s so many people have now, which was created by somebody who took photos of her and said, let’s cut you a fringe and cut it too short! I don’t know if you’ve ever seen the Bettie Page film, but it’s worth watching. It’s really interesting.

So she doesn’t have like the heaviest earth emphasis in her chart. She does have sun and Mercury there though. But what I think is interesting is that she made a career out of posing, being very risqué. And what she was doing, in her day was considered to be extremely taboo. And she does have other elements of her chart, which described this.

But there’s something about that beauty of the Taurean physique – the body with Taurus can be so attractive and so magnetic. And it doesn’t have to be the perfectly sculpted body even, but there’s something really attractive about it.

And when I was talking about elemental lacks, that’s when I thought about Bettie Page because Bettie didn’t have a problem with stripping off and the way she saw it was “It’s the body that God gave me and why should I be ashamed of that?”

Now, we don’t know if her birth time is exact – it’s a B rating – but I just thought I picked that out. So if you want to have a look and look into Bettie Page and maybe watch the film, she is…

🐱 Oh! Hello, Archer! He scared me!

…So yeah, she’s a Taurus. And it’s worth watching the film and bearing in mind that she is a Taurus.

David Bowie

➡️ View David Bowie on Astro Databank

Who else have I got… David Bowie. He’s got sun Mars and Mercury in Capricorn. David Bowie and I were born on the 8th of January as well. So he’s my solar twin!

Well obviously David Bowie, he’s just an icon. I’m not saying that all Capricorns are icons, but they certainly over time with hard work and persistence really gain respect from their peers.

And from the people that watched them really work their way through. And one of the things that’s really interesting about David Bowie is that he was able to transcend shifts in generations and music tastes and he was able to continue with his music – he was a true creative, and he just kept putting the music out.

He didn’t compromise on quality, he was always very high quality with what he did. Obviously, very sadly he’s passed away now, but one of the things that Capricorn does is that it tends to want to leave some kind of legacy.

He has left us a legacy with his – Lazarus – that piece of music, that really haunting film/music video, which absolutely got into my head.

I think a lot of people were having dreams about it after he died. It was amazing. I’ve got goosebumps talking about it.

There’s a lady called Lesley who’s on my Facebook friends list, who absolutely is the biggest David Bowie supporter that I know apart from a girl that I used to work with called Rachel. So if you’re listening, hello, I’m going to dedicate this part of the podcast to you, Leslie and Rachel the biggest Bowie fans that I know.

That’s a Wrap!

So that was it, I just wanted to give a little example of some earthy charts and get you guys involved. And if you’re enjoying this please share it with your friends and let them know that this is something that they can take part in as well.

The Elements: Fire Signs

The Fire Signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

Dividing the horoscope wheel by three and connecting the points where the circle is intersected gives an equilateral triangle. Signs of the same element sit at the points of the triangle and are 120° (four signs) apart. The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius.

Episode Transcript

Welcome back to The Stellium Astrology Podcast, I’m Stefanie James, and today I’m talking to you about Fire signs because I wanted to get into the elements. The elements are the building blocks of astrology, along with the modes, which I’ll be talking about in future episodes.

But for today, I wanted to talk about Fire, which is the element of the first sign of the Zodiac (Aries). So, just to really give you a picture of how the elements are laid out on the Zodiac wheel, if you draw a circle on a piece of paper and divide the circle into equal parts by three so you’ve got an equilateral triangle, then the fire signs will be exactly at the tips of the points of the corners of the equilateral triangle that you’ve drawn, placing them 120° apart.

So if you think about signs that are connected by elements – The fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagittarius. Aries is the first sign, Leo is the fifth sign and Sagittarius is the ninth sign of the Zodiac. Now, if you want to think about the earth elements, you literally move the triangle along one sign, and each tip of the triangle will be pointing at the earth elements.

And then again for the air signs and then also for the water signs, but we’ll come back to fire, for now.

And with this 120° distance between each of the elements, there does tend to be an ease and flowing of energy (if you want to use that word) it’s a nice sense of ease and a natural aptitude or compatibility with one another. So if you do have planets plotted in your chart, that happened to be dotted about in fire signs, then there will be a higher presence of the fire element in your chart.

What Drives Fire Signs?

So really what the elements do, is that they’re a kind of basic perception and processing of stimuli in your environment so it breaks down to our impulses and our urges and our needs, in how we interact with our environment.

And for fire the impulse is to instigate and to create something, to get something started, to do something meaningful. And if it’s already happening, if it’s already been instigated, then it’s to discern the meaning behind it and where it starts and where it finishes. So essentially fire signs really make something happen.

How Does Fire Behave?

And for me to really get into the elements, I like to really imagine myself in that element or close to that element. So for me, a fire sign to really embody this sense of fire is to think about the heat. So think about the way that it rises and fire tends to be, to symbolize cleansing. We talk about the Phoenix rising from the ashes, but the rise from the ashes, it has to burn first.

So, fire can destroy – but it has a sense of renewal. And a great way to think about that is in the summertime, sometimes farmers want to renew the soil to put the real nutritional value back into the soil, ready for it to be a good place to start growing new crops. And so they burn the existing crops and the ash nourishes the ground. So that’s a great way to imagine that sense of destroying, but also renewing.

Sun’s Out Guns Out

And like I said, fire burns, it’s hot – but it can draw us out. If you think about when there’s lovely hot days (especially in the UK) as soon as the sun comes out, everybody’s at the beach! It’s just that they really want to just bathe in that heat. And if you don’t live near the sea, if you don’t live near anywhere that’s particularly a sunbathing spot, people will be out just having barbecues in their back gardens.

There’s a real solar, fiery consistent presence in our lives. But fire isn’t just about the sun, it’s that essence that we’re working with. So yes, it’s hot! It draws us out and fire is quite direct as well.

Too Hot to Handle

But it can be too hot! When it gets really hot, it can be overwhelming. It can get out of control if not monitored. If you think about a building burning, you can’t just spray water anywhere. You have to spray it at the base of the flames to dull the fire because the fire can just – if it gets hot enough – it literally can travel anywhere and it can get out of control very quickly. So fire can be excessive. So if you do have a strong fire presence in your chart, you may recognize that you can be excessive at times.

Maybe you do have points in your life where you decide that you want to cleanse an area and start afresh. There’s a very strong sense of inspiration with fire. But also, if we’re going to break it down a bit more, it’s considered to be very masculine energy: quite yang, and very conscious of itself.

And when I say masculine, I’m not trying to go with gender pronouns here; masculinity in a sense is not necessarily about being male, or the masculine and feminine being male or female. But there’s a sense of action and extroverted nature with masculine energies in the natal chart. So really for fire, like I said before, there’s this drive to establish, to instigate and to find meaning.

The Visionary Flame

There’s this sensing with fire and it’s quite visionary. It likes to instigate, it’s quite independent. A lot of people with strong fire in their charts  – particularly fire moons  –  have a need to be independent. They want to break away and explore and do things their own way. It’s quite extroverted as I think I’ve already said and very inspirational.

The fire signs in my life I find very inspirational people and they have a connection or astuteness that’s very… they just have a sense of something, or they just have an… I think all the signs have an intuition, but intuition is very different for each sign. And I think for the fire signs, they have a kind of, almost like a sense of ‘knowing’, just a connectedness. It just falls into their head.

They tend to be quite inspirational people and they are upbeat and optimistic and joyful and positive and quite buoyant. Heat rises and the fire signs tend to be quite buoyant and quite joyful. I think Sue Tompkins says in her book – that Tigger-like embodiment (of their personality). They’re very Tigger-like.

Don’t Touch the Hair

And my experience of fire signs is that they tend to have great hair generally! If there’s a lot of fire in the chart, usually you’ll see the fire signs do have quite good hair. Obviously there’s other chart factors that might contradict this, but at the moment, if we’re just focusing on an element, there can be a tendency to having this really wonderful flowing mane. Not just specifically, Leo’s – I just find that with a lot of fire signs.

The other thing I’ve noticed about fire signs (or people with strong fire in their chart) is they tend to sleep naked! A lot of them do –  not all of them.

But there’s this body thermostat that just runs hot all the time. So sometimes fire signs are drawn to the heat and they enjoy it, but sometimes they are just hot! They’re just really hot.

A good tip if your body does run hot from somebody I know who had strong fire in their chart: they put a bottle of water in the freezer and then at night time in the summer when it’s hot, they wrap some layers of clothes around it, wrap it in a blanket and they hug a frozen bottle of water while they try to get sleep. That’s a great tip for fire signs who do run hot.

A Lack of Fire

If you lack an element there tends to be undervaluing the qualities or having less control over it. So fire signs are generally the signs that have a bit of vava-voom and a little bit of oomph – (they tend to).

If you don’t have much fire in your chart, then there can be a lack of oomph. And there may be a struggle to take up leadership or to feel like you can lead with confidence. Perhaps they don’t feel as inspired and maybe they don’t have a strong sense of confidence in themselves, to an extent. Also perhaps they’re not so visionary as somebody with a stronger fire signature.

Leaning towards more of a pessimistic outlook can be a lack of fire and not being as risk-taking. So the fire signs tend to be known for being quite daring, quite bold and taking risks. Particularly Sagittarius who likes to gamble and just believes in having the best outcome.

With a lack of fire that can manifest as not taking risks. And that can be rightfully so, because they may have taken risks in the past which may not have worked out in their favour.

Consulting the Middle Man

And generally fire signs, in their search for meaning or having a sense or feeling of meaning, somebody that lacks fire can tend to look for a middle-man to or something that connects them to that sense of meaning without being directly connected themselves.

So, somebody who seeks going to the church, or coming to a clairvoyant, or to an astrologer, because they don’t have that natural connection to their higher-self, or they lack that ability to follow their inner-compass as much.

It’s not that they don’t have that connection – it’s just that they don’t feel connected enough to their own sense of divinity or don’t believe they have enough of an influence over their own direction in life so they look for guidance in that area – I know we all do at times! This is just a basic overview of what the element fire represents and what it can look like if it lacks in your chart.

Subscriber Charts

Lucy

Lucy has 5 planets in fire including a 1st house Aries Stellium and unconventional Uranus on the Midheaven in Sagittarius.

➡️ Read What is a Stellium?

Listener Charts Lucy W

So I am going to look at a couple of charts for people who have sent them into me. And one person I wanted to talk about was Lucy W who was born in Truro. And she has got one, two, three, four, five planets in fire!

She has her sun and moon in fire in Aries, and she has Mercury and Venus in fire as well (in Aries). And she also has Uranus in Sagittarius on the Midheaven (MC). So Uranus in Sagittarius, isn’t such a big deal because Uranus is such a slow moving planet. I believe it takes about seven years to transit each zodiac sign, approximately.

And because it’s so slow moving, it’s a generational planet, but because it’s on the Midheaven, which is a very fast moving calculated point in the chart (it’s the highest point). The Midheaven and the Ascendent (Asc) tend to move a degree roughly every four minutes.

Basically that makes that (having Uranus on the MC) much more poignant in her chart. So to have fire on the Midheaven and to have Uranus there – Uranus is already quite an independent and quite unpredictable unconventional planet to be in a fire sign – It gives it that sense of having to do things their own way. It’s quite impulsive and it’s quite instigative, and it really does want to seek out something original and unique.

And it’s very self-sufficient, in a sense. So having this chart, this strong Aries presence in the chart and this strong fiery presence in the chart, it has a sense of from a very early age (because it involves her moon and all of her personal planets), Lucy will have probably been quite headstrong, wanting to do things her own way.

And it may be difficult for parents with children that have strong fire, because they can be quite independent from a young age and wanting to break away. But actually there is a sense of really being able to rely upon themselves to get things done, and quite inspired, and having that sense, like I said, there is that real sense of being able to get things, bring things into fruition or to get things started. So fire is quite a productive, confident, element to have present in the chart. Lucy, you’ve got a strong fire presence. You may relate to some of the things I’ve talked about.

Carolina

Carolina has 4 planets in fire in her Sagittarius stellium (which includes her sun out-of-sign in Scorpio), straddling the 2nd and 3rd houses.

Listener Chart – Carolina

And we’ve got Carolina as well, and let’s go to Carolina’s chart and have a quick look. So Carolina – one of my subscribers – has got a stellium in Sagittarius. She has Neptune, Jupiter, Mercury, and Venus all in Sagittarius.

And she also has – just out of sign – her sun in Scorpio. So she doesn’t have her sun, or moon or ascendant in fire, but she does have a lot of fire in her chart. She has four planets including Neptune (another one of those generational planets that moves really, really slowly, approximately 14 years per sign). That being in conjunction with her sun, brings her sun into the stellium.

➡️ Read What is a Stellium?

So even though her sun is in a water sign (and it definitely will be processed through water) she still has a strong fire presence in her chart. So there’s a sense of struggle or conflict because the sun in water in conjunction with Neptune watery outer-planet happens to be in a fire sign and connected to three other planets in fire as well. So there is a real sense of wanting to go deep with Scorpio, but actually this fire also wants to let go of stuff that is deep and dark and drags you down, to an extent.

So Carolina, we may look at your chart a little bit later because you do have a stellium just like Lucy does, in fire. And that’s an interesting one to look at.

Angelique

Angelique has planets in each of the fire signs.

Angelique's Chart

Another subscriber, Angelique in Croydon, has got her moon in Leo, and she has Jupiter, Venus and Saturn all in Aries. And she has Chiron (which is an astroid) and Pluto sitting in Sagittarius. So she’s got planets in each of the fire signs – she’s got a bit of each of the fire elements. So actually Angelique, you have quite a lot going on there in fire signs. So you’d probably quite relate to some of this.

We’d normally associate drama with Leo, but there is a drama with each of the fire signs and with Leo, perhaps it’s actual drama. And they do enjoy where there isn’t drama, creating some, and really getting into play and pretending to be other people to an extent (that’s kind of what acting is).

But with Aries, there’s the drama of the competition. And when you think about sports, there’s this competitive element that really fires up this drama within you. And with Sagittarius, there’s the drama of the world stage. So it could be the drama of politics, or it could be the drama of what’s going on in the world with international competition, like the Olympics, for example.

So it can be quite dramatic, very enthusiastic. And it’s interesting when you have a stronger presence in your chart, the stronger presence of elements can contradict sometimes the actual natal placements you have.

But for Angelique, she definitely does have a Leo moon so there is a need for play and for fun, and definitely can be a little bit dramatic and it might not just describe you Angelique, but it may describe actually a little bit like what your mum’s like, because your moon actually tends to be what your mum is, as well.

So you may recognise that your mum might be a bit demonstrative and dramatic at times. And she may also have fabulous hair. And I don’t doubt for a second that you do either! You must have great hair.

Angelique, you’ve got quite a lot of fire going on in your chart, which brings in all of the fire elements, which is quite nice because to an extent there is a balanced expression, even though in Sagittarius, you do only have Pluto, which is the another one of those generational slow moving planets, which can take years and years.

It’s in Capricorn at the moment and it’s going to take… I don’t think it’s leaving Capricorn for, I think it’s going to be there for, oh my gosh. How many years has it been there? 20 years will it be in Capricorn? Anyway, I don’t know, off the top of my head, I can’t think without looking.

(I’ve since had a look and it will leave Capricorn in November 2024 after entering in 2008 and spending 16 years in the mountain goat’s sign!).

So, Angelique, you’ve got loads of fire in your chart and we’ll probably be looking at you again at some point soon.

Allie – Lacks Fire

Allie has only Neptune and Chiron in fire.

Listener Charts Allie Bee

And I thought I’d pick out somebody who doesn’t have a lot of fire in their chart, and this another one of my subscribers – Allie B from, Toronto, Canada. Now, Allie, you have given me your chart to have a look at. Now, you do have a couple of placements in fire.

So you’ve got Neptune on the Midheaven in fire. And like I said, the Midheaven is the highest point and so it’s elevated and it’s the career point and where we focus on what we aspire to. And you’ve got Chiron in Aries.

Now, Chiron’s not a planet. So I don’t tend to look too much at Chiron when I’m doing ‘planetary weightings’ ( when I’m looking at how heavily weighted your chart is to an element). But you could say that with this one having Chiron at 29° Aries speaks about that lack of fire actually, in your chart, because there can be almost a lack of confidence or almost like a fear perhaps in actually trying to do something that embodies that fiery quality.

So Allie’s got the sun, Venus and Jupiter in Taurus, and she has the moon and Uranus in water, in Scorpio. That’s quite a fixed see-saw, but we’ll get onto the fixed signs when I do the modes.

But she’s also got Pluto in Libra and she also has Mars and Saturn in Cancer. So you’ve got a lot of water in your chart Allie, and you also have quite a lot of earth, but fire lacks for you. And like I said, you’ve got that Neptune on the Midheaven in Sagittarius. And Neptune, we already touched on it before (I think I spoke about it. I can’t remember whose chart had Neptune in conjunction with the sun in Scorpio – I think it was Carolina actually) but having Neptune anywhere in the chart is not very clear. I know a lot of people who do have Neptune in Sagittarius, because there’s a whole generation of people born with Neptune in Sagittarius.

And if you’ve got sun in Sagittarius and other planetary placements in Sagittarius, there’s a sense of not really being able to identify with it because Neptune can make it very difficult to… it clouds things, it makes things very unclear. It’s quite nebulous.

And having it on the Midheaven in fire, there is a sense of; Neptune is a very compassionate planet and Sagittarius is quite a compassionate sign. So there is a sense of really needing to do something meaningful. And this may be how you express your fire in your chart, because even though you don’t have a lot of it, this is a channel for you to really work on fire and work with people, aspiring to people who have strong fire signatures in their charts. But this Chiron placement in Aries describes a sense of, perhaps a fear of independence and trying to do things and lead in your own way.

There may be with all that Taurus stuff following on from that Chiron, there may be a sense of leaning towards the way things have already been done and Taurus likes to be comfortable. So there’s a sense of falling into the comfort zone and wanting to do things the ‘tried and tested’ way rather than doing things the risk-taking and daring way.

So that’s just touching really on what, the lack in this particular chart as far as fire is concerned, is like. But like I said, there’s a lot of water and earth in that chart. So it could be that this is productive and very connected – there’s a sense of ability to connect on an emotional level.

There are a lot of stronger elements where you will probably come into your own, but with fire, like I said, the lack can be maybe a lack of being able to lead, not feeling like they trust their own inspiration or having that inspiration, that creative ability and, lacking confidence to an extent in those kinds of areas and maybe leaning towards caution and pessimism as well.

So a lack of fire, like I said, can present as being not as optimistic. But these are not curses – these are not terrible things. We all have our strengths in different areas. So I thought I would just cover that today.

Celebrity Charts

A few celebrities who have fire placements are Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera – they both have a number of planets in Sagittarius. I seem to be picking up on Sagittarius today, actually! Because I also feel Jimi Hendrix was a good one to look at.

Jimi Hendrix

➡️ View Jimi Hendrix on Astro-Databank

And Jimmy Hendrix has sun, Venus and Mercury all in Sagittarius, and it’s his rising sign as well. And Jimi Hendrix was a really inspired guitarist who really did things differently. There’s a lot of different things that you could look at in the chart, which might describe why he had to do things differently, but we’re looking at the essence of Jimmy’s chart and a really strong fire presence in the chart.

Describes somebody that has to make things happen. It’s very inspirational and has to search for a sense of – for him it was originality in doing things his own way – He definitely broke the mould. So Jimmy Hendrix is a really interesting one.

Christina Aguilera

➡️ View Christina Aguilera on Astro-Databank

But there’s plenty of fiery celebrities out there, Christina, out there doing her thing, Christina Aguilera, I think she’s got Venus, Mercury, sun and Neptune in Sagittarius and her Midheaven so known for being quite an inspired singer herself. I think with Christina the hair I always look at her lovely flowing, fiery Mane and yeah, she’s definitely quite original. The other thing about fire signs is that they inspire enthusiasm, confidence and optimism in other people as well. And they do tend to get noticed a lot more easily as well. The fire signs, they are just very outwardly expressive and quite demonstrative.

Britney Spears

➡️ View Britney Spears on Astro-Databank

So yeah, if you want to look at Christina’s chart Jimi’s chart and… Where’s Brittany’s chart? I don’t know if I’ve still got her one up. No, I don’t think I do any more, but Brittany again has a very similar chart  – not a similar chart, but she has similar planets in Sagittarius to Christina. So I just happened to pick three Sagittarians there for some reason – probably because I have Sagittarius on my descendant, and I don’t have a lot of planets in fire either!

(If you’re wondering, I have Jupiter, Uranus, Neptune and my descendant in fire, but that’s about it! So, the slower moving planets. Jupiter’s quite a good one to have in fire).

I do admire fire qualities and other people. And I attract that too because it’s on my descendant and my ‘attracting/relationship’ area.
